The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) emphasized that the reasons for expelling the brutal Assad regime from the Arab League and isolating it still persist. The regime continues to commit atrocities against the Syrian people in liberated areas through daily bombardment, as well as in regime-held areas where citizens endure repression, corruption, and poor living conditions.

In a press release issued on Monday, the SOC said that for years, the Assad regime has also posed a real threat to the region and the world, as it has attracted and harbored Iranian terrorist militias and turned Syria into a hub for distributing drugs and Captagon pills worldwide.

“The Assad regime has utilized chemical weapons, barrel bombs, and other armaments against innocent civilians to discourage their demands for freedom and dignity. The reasons for which the regime was boycotted still exist and cannot be disregarded or forgotten, particularly since its bombings and crimes persist and are intrinsic to its nature, committing these heinous acts with the aid of its allies,” the SOC added.

The SOC also stressed that a regime that has pursued a policy of killing and displacing its own people cannot be a source of security and stability. Inviting Assad to the Arab League would only serve the Iranian regime and would not be in the interest of Arabs. Supporting the Syrian people against those who kill and displace them is a moral and humanitarian obligation.

“The Arab countries and the international community should not normalize relations with the Assad regime, but instead, take serious measures to hold it accountable and achieve a political transition, as stipulated in UN resolutions. It should not be rewarded by ending its isolation after committing thousands of crimes and hindering all efforts to reach a political solution.”

“We urge our brothers and friends to hold this regime responsible for its crimes and to support a political transition in Syria. The Syrian people appreciate and thank all the brotherly and friendly countries that have stood and continue to stand by them, supporting their rightful demands and refusing to rehabilitate the murderous regime. We confirm that the Syrian people will persist in the principles of the revolution and work with available means to attain their goal of constructing a free Syria.”
