On Monday, a popular conference was held in the town of Al-Rai in the countryside of Aleppo, to reject normalization with the Assad regime. The conference was attended by more than 2,000 participants, including representatives of various Syrian organizations and leaders, such as the President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, the Head of the Syrian Interim Government, Abdurrahman Mustafa, the President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Badr Jamous, and the Co-chair of the Constitutional Committee, Hadi al-Bahra.

The conference, titled “The Syrian Conference to Reject Normalization with the Criminal Assad”, concluded with a statement affirming the participants’ commitment to the revolution for desired change and their rejection of any rapprochement or attempt at normalization with the regime. The participants called for the implementation of UN resolutions on Syria, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254.

The closing statement emphasized that Syrian refugees cannot return voluntarily to their homeland without their full confidence in achieving their security and personal freedoms, as well as a decent life, the security and stability of society, and reliable Arab and international guarantees. The statement also stressed that the first of these steps begins with the full implementation of UN Resolution 2254 and the achievement of a safe and neutral environment.

During his speech, Al-Meslet emphasized that there can be no normalization, rapprochement, or reconciliation with the Assad regime, which has lost its legitimacy and poses a threat to the global community. He reaffirmed his commitment to the goals of the Syrian revolution and called on Arab countries to reconsider their steps towards normalization with the regime. Al-Meslet also praised the positions of countries that reject normalization and sought to convey the voice of the Syrian people to world capitals.

The participants rejected normalization with the criminal Assad regime and called for the implementation of UN resolutions and the achievement of a safe and neutral environment, stressing the need to support the goals of the Syrian people until the realization of their aspirations to build a free and dignified state.
